The
Ladies Posse

Documenting the women who shaped Bristol's underground music culture. A living archive of sound, vision, and community.

In the early 1980s, Bristol’s underground music scene was beginning to take shape — built on sound systems, hip hop, soul, reggae, pirate radio and the energy of independent clubs and community spaces. Out of that moment came The Ladies Posse, widely recognised as one of the UK’s first female DJ collectives.

This site documents that story. Through photographs, flyers, recordings and personal archives, it traces the journey of the DJs and the wider Bristol scene that surrounded them — from record shops and dancefloors to studios and radio shows. Much of this history was never formally archived, so these pages bring together rare material and memories to tell a story that helped shape Bristol’s musical identity.
